Prunus yedoensis, commonly known as Yoshino cherry, is a deciduous tree renowned for its stunning springtime display of delicate blushed white blossoms. Originating from Japan around 1902, this ornamental cherry has become a cherished favourite in various parts of the world, for its enchanting floral spectacle.
During spring, Prunus yedoensis produces an abundance of blushed pink buds that eventually open to white, fragrant blossoms. The foliage of the Yoshino cherry is simple with elliptical leaves that emerge in spring. These are initially a very light green colour, eventually maturing to a mid-green. In autumn, leaves transform into shades of strong yellow.
Rounded with graceful arching branches, the Yoshino cherry will provide ample shade in the summer months. Its adaptability to a variety of soil types, and its preference for well-drained locations make it a versatile choice for landscaping.
