Malus ‘Comtesse de Paris’ was first introduced in France and is a captivating ornamental apple tree variety known for its stunning beauty and charming characteristics. This deciduous tree is cherished for its abundant and exquisite blossoms, as well as its attractive fruits, making it a favourite among garden designers and landscapers.
One of the most striking features of the Malus ‘Comtesse de Paris’ is its profusion of delicate and fragrant flowers. In late spring or early summer, small pink buds burst into a stunning show of pure white flowers. The abundant display of flowers creates a breath-taking sight and attracts pollinators like bees and butterflies.
As summer transitions to autumn, the tree flowers give way to small yellow fruit, slightly pointed, almost looking like mini lemons. These aren’t typically grown for culinary purposes, but can be used in decorative arrangements or left for the birds to enjoy throughout winter.
With better disease resistance and a more balanced shape, the ‘Comtesse de Paris’ is considered to be an improvement on the better known ‘Golden Hornet’. Whether planted as a focal point or as part of an ornamental landscape, this tree will add charm, elegance and natural beauty to any setting.
