A rare variety of Malus originating from Japan, this tree showcases a captivating colour reminiscent of the Malus tschonoskii but boast a broader, more pyramid-shaped crown.
In late spring, it unfurls creamy-white flowers with delicate hints of pink on their petals. These blossoms, arranged in dense clusters of about 20 along the branches, probe irresistible to bees, aiding in the pollination of neighbouring Malus trees. While small, they exude an understated elegance against the backdrop of vibrant green foliage.
During the summer, its leaves present a robust matte green hue, featuring 5-7 shallow lobes and a heart-shaped base. As autumn approaches, it undergoes a spectacular transformation turning to rich oranges, coppery bronzes and vivid reds. Notable, the yunnanensis exhibits a remarkable resilience to scab and mildew, ensuring a stunning autumnal showcase irrespective of its environment.
Adding to its allure, the tree produces radiant red fruits, providing additional interest well into the winter months.
Perfectly suited for expansive public areas and broad open streets, this tree promises to enhance any open urban landscape with its beauty.
