Raised on our nurseries in 1968 as a seedling derived from Sorbus Joseph Rock. This particular Sorbus has demonstrated superior qualities that have surpassed its parent. Consequently, it has taken precedence in our production. Exhibiting robust vigour, it establishes quickly and attains its final height as a small tree. Although it begins with an upright growth patter, it matures into a fuller and rounder form.
Abundant white flowers grace the tree in corymbs in May – June, giving way to numerous clusters of large berries that transition to a vibrant golden yellow in mid to late summer. This stunning display is complemented by a superb autumn foliage, reminiscent of its parent with red-orange hues and hints of purple.
During the summer, the leaves maintain a rich dark green colour, turning into its autumn colour earlier than its parent, Sorbus Joseph Rock. Notably, Sorbus Sunshine exhibits heightened resistance to fireblight compared to its predecessor. In summary, this Sorbus variety stands as a top-tier small tree, offering a delightful combination of visual appeal, resilience and efficient growth.
